What Is National Smile Month?

National Smile Month is a nationwide campaign dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of good oral health and highlighting the impact it has on our overall wellbeing. At our mixed NHS and private dental practice in Bexleyheath, we are proud to be supporting National Smile Month 2026 and helping to spread this vital message within our local community.

#NSM2026 National Smile Month, the UK’s largest oral health campaign run by the Oral Health Foundation, runs from May 13 to June 13, 2026.

This years theme is focused on promoting the importance of good oral health, often highlighted by the oral health foundation, is a way to ‘put a smile on everybody’s face’

What is the campaign aiming to achieve?

Oral health problems affect millions of people every year and can have a serious impact on daily life. Dental conditions such as tooth decay, gum disease, and infections can cause significant pain, discomfort, and distress. In some cases, oral diseases can even become life-threatening if left untreated, highlighting just how important regular dental care and prevention truly are.

Oral health inequalities exist across many different groups in society. Factors such as age, income, education level, and where you live can all influence how healthy your mouth is. Sadly, those most affected often face barriers to accessing dental care, education, and early treatment.

These inequalities are not only unfair and unjust, but they are often preventable. In the UK, oral health inequalities can increase the risk of:

  • Oral diseases, including tooth decay and gum disease

  • Tooth loss and the need for extractions

  • Mouth cancer

  • Dental anxiety and phobias

  • Reduced access to frontline dental care and support services

During National Smile Month, Crook Log Dental Practice is committed to helping patients in Bexleyheath and across Kent achieve better oral health and improve their quality of life through education, prevention, and accessible care.

As a mixed NHS and private practice, we offer a range of treatment options to suit individual needs, including private treatments and 0% interest-free finance plans for up to 12 months, making dental care more accessible for our patients, click here for further information https://www.crooklogdentalpractice.co.uk/0-interest-free-finance/

Our practice is proud to have a highly skilled and friendly in-house team, including dentists, hygienists, dental nurses, oral surgeons, and an orthodontist. This allows us to provide comprehensive dental care all under one roof.

Throughout National Smile Month, we are actively promoting good oral health and encouraging positive habits that can last a lifetime—because a healthy mouth really does matter.
